Minimalism may be an ongoing trend in the design industry but there is only one style that will remain timeless - the Scandinavian design. A Scandinavian interior design uses the blend of textures and soft colour scheme to create a warm and inviting space. The design style is perfect for any big or small spaces. The style is also very popular among many furniture manufacturers because it is easy to find affordable pieces to design your space with. As an interior designer, here are some of my tips on how you can easily style your space with a stunning Scandinavian interior design.
Choose Wooden furniture
A Scandinavian style of design starts with a lot of wooden components. The material wood would often be included in their furniture, fixtures and even flooring choices. Start by filling your space with wooden coffee tables, dining chairs, entertainment units, etc. In the recent trend, we have started to see the incorporation of metal in the designs such as metal legs of dining chairs or metal lamp fixtures to fit more with the 2022 trend. We are also seeing the comeback of some brighter pastels and floral designs projecting influences from the 80s century.
Choose a Light and Neutral Colour Scheme
The common colour palette of a Scandinavian design is usually associated with the shades of whites, greys, browns and blacks. So, when decorating your room, try to focus on choosing pieces that are neutral in colour to help create the soothing and clean effect of a Scandinavian style of design. In the recent months, we are seeing the increasing popularity of darker or pastel shades of orange, brown, blue and green. These colours could be a great addition to space to create some pop of colour, but remember to add in moderation.
Accessories with Patterns and Textures
A Scandinavian design style loves to use textures and patterns to elevate a space. Get neutral coloured carpet and throws, usually made of wool, to create the warm and cosy feel that the Scandinavian style tends to project. Do not be afraid to also incorporate some patterns into your design to give the space some character. By choosing the right patterns and pieces, patterns can actually give a space a sense of peace and quiet. Floral patterns, stripes and squares are a good choice to add pattern to your design.
Keep Your Spaces Clutter-free
It is very important to keep a space clutter-free to truly achieve the Scandinavian design. Get creative on your storage solutions. Maybe you can pick up a bedframe with storage or buy a buffet table instead of a console table. The mantra of truly achieving the Scandinavian design style is that less is always more. Refrain yourself from picking up any extra unnecessary pieces and only purchase furniture and accessories that you need in your space. Keep the space clean, inviting and cosy!
